4th Grade Boston Landscapes

This week in the art room, 4th graders looked at the Boston Skyline. We talked about the silhouette of the buildings and the pleasing composition as well. Students first drew with pencil and then outlined with vine charcoal. They had a great time despite some messy hands! It was nice to see the variations and the different ways students manipulated the materials. Great work!

Heart Mural

In honor of Jump Rope For Heart on March 3rd and Valentines Day, each student at Byam made a heart to add to the mural outside of the art room. We talked about analogous colors (colors that are next to each other on the color wheel) and how to create a unique design using oil pastels and watercolor on top. These came out wonderful, great work Byam School!!

Jump Rope for Heart is an event organized by Mrs. M and the American Heart Association to keep our hearts healthy and to raise awareness and funds for children with heart disease. I will be one of the jump rope judges at the event, I hope to see you there! For more information about Jump Rope for Heart and the American Heart Association click the link below.

First Grade Kandinsky Pinch Pots

This week, first graders learned about the Russian abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky. We talked about the bright colors we saw in his painting and the different sized circles in his most famous work, Squares with Concentric Circles, pictured below.

We were then inspired to create our own version of Kandinsky's painting. First graders started by making pinch pots out of model magic clay and then painted concentric circles inside with bright neon paint. Here are the beautiful results below!

BYAM on the Gym Wall!

Last year, Mrs. M and I asked 4th graders to design the letters of BYAM to be painted on the gym walls. Each letter is designated for a particular Boston sports team. We finished this project up a few weeks ago and here are the results below! Thank you to the previous fourth grade class for creating such wonderful designs and for leaving your legacy at Byam!
