1st Grade Van Gogh Sunflowers

This week in the art room, first graders looked at Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflower paintings. We learned about his career as an artist and then painted our own sunflowers. Students did a wonderful job recreating their own version below. Great work first graders!

2nd Grade Georgia O'Keefe Watercolor Flowers

How great did these Georgia O'Keefe flowers turn out!? We first looked at Georgia O'Keefe's artwork and talked about her career as an artist in the 1900's. Then we painted our own flowers using concentrated liquid watercolor and added details with oil pastels. Great work 2nd graders!

Still Life Fruits

Last week, I gathered several different fruits for a still life composition. We talked about many different artists that paint from a still life composition including Claude Monet, Vincent Can Gogh, and Edouard Manet. First graders observed these fruits, noticing the texture and the color. I placed them in front of each student and then we drew them first and painted on top. Great work first graders, notice the shading on the bottom and the source of light at the top!

2nd Grade Kandinsky Circles

This week in the art room, second graders learned about Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian painter who lived from 1866 to 1944. Kandinsky was known for his abstract paintings that reflect musical compositions. Here is one we focused on called "Squares with Concentric Circles".

We talked about the different bright colors in his artwork and how you can feel many different moods while looking at this. After learning about Kandinsky's life and career as an artist, we painted our own version of his painting. Here is some artwork below!

Chelmsford Public Library Art Show

Each year, the Chelmsford Public Library hosts an art show for students in the district in honor of Youth Art Month. Each school can submit only seven pieces of 2-D artwork and several other pieces of 3-D artwork. The students chosen for this year's show are well-deserving and talented artists. 4th Grade Boston Landscapes

This week in the art room, 4th graders looked at the Boston Skyline. We talked about the silhouette of the buildings and the pleasing composition as well. Students first drew with pencil and then outlined with vine charcoal. They had a great time despite some messy hands! It was nice to see the variations and the different ways students manipulated the materials. Great work!
