Second Grade Starry Night Pumpkins

This week in art, Second Graders learned how to draw three-dimensional pumpkins from a still life. We talked about the curved lines on our pumpkins and learned how to create light and shadow as well. Next, we observed Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night painting. We examined the swirls around the clouds and the stars and learned that Van Gogh used short brush strokes to make the sky look like it was moving. Here are some beautiful pictures below!

Kindergarten Pumpkins

This week in art, Kindergarteners learned all about pumpkins. We learned how they grow from seeds and why they come in different shapes and sizes. We also learned how to make a pumpkin look round on paper. We talked about how they have curved lines that start from the bottom of the pumpkin and continue all the way to the stem.

1st Grade Georgia O'Keefe Autumn Leaves

This week in 1st grade, we learned about Georgia O'Keefe and her beautiful close-up paintings of leaves and flowers. Here are a few of her paintings below.

We talked about the changing colors of the leaves in Autumn and created some leaf rubbings with crayons to find all of the small detailed lines in our leaves (collected from around our school). Next, we applied our new found knowledge and painted large scale leaves using fall colors. Here are some beautiful results below, great job first graders!

First Grade Rainbow Snails

This week, first graders reviewed the colors and order of the rainbow. We looked at some nails and their different shells and then colored them in the order of the rainbow. I love how bright and colorful these turned out!
