Still Life Fruits

Last week, I gathered several different fruits for a still life composition. We talked about many different artists that paint from a still life composition including Claude Monet, Vincent Can Gogh, and Edouard Manet. First graders observed these fruits, noticing the texture and the color. I placed them in front of each student and then we drew them first and painted on top. Great work first graders, notice the shading on the bottom and the source of light at the top!

2nd Grade Kandinsky Circles

This week in the art room, second graders learned about Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian painter who lived from 1866 to 1944. Kandinsky was known for his abstract paintings that reflect musical compositions. Here is one we focused on called "Squares with Concentric Circles".

We talked about the different bright colors in his artwork and how you can feel many different moods while looking at this. After learning about Kandinsky's life and career as an artist, we painted our own version of his painting. Here is some artwork below!

Chelmsford Public Library Art Show

Each year, the Chelmsford Public Library hosts an art show for students in the district in honor of Youth Art Month. Each school can submit only seven pieces of 2-D artwork and several other pieces of 3-D artwork. The students chosen for this year's show are well-deserving and talented artists. Congratulations and I hope you enjoyed the show last night! Here is some of the artwork below.
