This week in the art room, first graders learned about the colors in the rainbow and how chameleons change color based on their moods and surroundings. First we drew our chameleons with different types of lines on them and then painted them using the colors of the rainbow. These came out beautiful and are now hanging in the hallway! Great work first grade!

Kindergarten Fall Leaves
This week in Kindergarten, we looked at all of the different types of leaves that are falling outside Byam School. We learned about the different colors leaves change and why they fall off the trees during this time of year. We also looked at the order of the rainbow and explored different types of line variation. Here are the results of our rainbow fall leaves below!

International Dot Day!
This week in art, every grade celebrated National Dot Day by reading The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We talked about how to inspire others, how to spread acts of kindness, and how to make our positive mark at Byam. Next, we made our own dot using analogous colors on the color wheel (colors that are next to each other) with oil pastels and tempera paints. We talked about how to create a resist, and how water and oil don't mix so the pastels show up on top. Check out the beautiful artwork below! For more information on International Dot Day, click here!
What do you love about Byam School or what are you looking forward to this year?
This year, I asked students to write on a post-it note what they love about Byam School or what they are looking forward to this year. We placed all of the post-its on the Art Gallery board, take a look!
The Great Wave
Last year, the fourth graders at Byam School created this large mural below based on Hokusai's the Great Wave. With some help, it is now hanging up in the cafeteria! Amazing work fourth grade!
