International Dot Day!

This week in art, every grade celebrated National Dot Day by reading The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We talked about how to inspire others, how to spread acts of kindness, and how to make our positive mark at Byam. Next, we made our own dot using analogous colors on the color wheel (colors that are next to each other) with oil pastels and tempera paints. We talked about how to create a resist, and how water and oil don't mix so the pastels show up on top. Check out the beautiful artwork below! This year, I asked students to write on a post-it note what they love about Byam School or what they are looking forward to this year. We placed all of the post-its on the Art Gallery board, take a look!

The Great Wave

Last year, the fourth graders at Byam School created this large mural below based on Hokusai's the Great Wave. With some help, it is now hanging up in the cafeteria! Amazing work fourth grade!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a wonderful summer break!

This summer, I taught several art classes at the Danforth Museum of Art in Framingham, MA and also took classes at Framingham State University. Below I have some pictures of student artwork and also some of my own artwork below. Take a look!

The Great Wave

This year the fourth graders celebrated their five years at Byam School with a day filled with fun activities, painting, and time spent with friends. The theme for this year was "Catch the Wave to 5th Grade" so we decided to paint our own version of Hokusai's "The Great Wave." Each class was assigned a canvas to paint and then they were all put together at the end. Thank you to the parents for helping make this project possible, the students and I are all very excited to hang this in our school! Check out how beautiful it came out!
